Coming Soon: The Synik 22 and Synik 30 Backpacks

An earlier version of the Synik. Photo taken in April 2019.

Over the past week or so, the updated pack design Nik has been working on for the past year has been (somewhat) revealed. It’s named the Synik (here’s why). The Synik is a version of our Synapse 19 / 25 backpacks that includes many of the features some of you have been asking for; we added some additional features as well, which include:

Full clamshell AKA panel zipper opening
Removable internal tie-down straps
Two-point access suspended laptop compartment
Our new Edgeless EV50 1/2” shoulder straps
Fully integrated yet removable internal frame with aluminum half-stay
Rolling luggage handle pass-through
Updated grab handle
Label moved to lower right corner

Timeline for release:

August 6th
Pages for the Synik 22 and 30 go live. The pages will have an abundance of information — description, specs, photos, videos, an FAQ — to help you decide whether the Synik is the right bag for you (or not).

August 13th
Pre-order opens / remains open until 08/20 unless either size of Synik sells out. See our Pre-Order FAQ if you’re wondering how our pre-orders work.

I am super excited to see you’re soon going to be selling a clamshell style backpack. I really prefer that styling for backpacks as well as briefcases. I would have loved to have bought a Founder’s Briefcase but never got the trigger pulled.

Jennifer! Glad you are excited for the Synik.

Oh wow! This is going to be the perfect bag.

I’ve been searching for an EDC that will comfortably hold laptop, Freudian Slip & good sized knitting project. Seems like the extra depth on the Synik will make it work.

The main reason why I returned my Synapse 25 was because of the lack of dedicated Laptop compartment. With the laptop in a Cache attached to the rail system, on the S25 the laptop basically “hung” from the top of the bag, which would constantly cause the top of the bag to “dip” down due to the weight. This would also cause items inside the bag to sneak behind the laptop towards the bottom as well.

    I’m glad TB rectified this!

Super excited for this bag! I have been on a deep search for a mid-sized backpack, with a sternum strap, with a luggage pass through to use as a daily work bag and travel bag. This looks perfect! Plus, I’ve been waiting to get just the right Tom Bihn bag as my first one!

What is the best way to get notified for the preorder? And is there a specific time that I should be keeping an eye out on the page for preorder?

Glad that the Synik seems like it could be the right bag for you! The pages for the Synik go live on August 6th, and when they do, folks can sign up on an email list to be notified the Synik is made available for pre-order. We’ll also post about that on our social media. Pre-order opens on August 13th. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any further questions!
