Why we use Urethane (and not PVC)
The clear material that we use to make our Clear Organizer Pouches, 3D Clear Organizer Cube, Swift, and Clear Quarter Packing Cube (amongst other bags) is made of urethane instead of PVC.
This is a conscious and, we hope, conscientious decision on our part; PVC is pretty nasty stuff. It isn’t good for your health (ever open a brand-new PVC shower curtain, get a headache, and wonder why?) or the environment. The Europe Union has gone so far as to ban PVC children’s toys.
Unfortunately, PVC is still the third most widely used thermoplastic polymer, in part because urethane and other alternatives tend to be more expensive than PVC. We think the added expense of urethane is worth it for the health of you, us, and the planet.
Insider tip: if your clear Urethane bag or accessory becomes cloudy from soap, toiletries or food, clean it with rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth (or use an “eyeglasses cleaner”).
The new Luminary 12 and Luminary 15 backpacks + bags in 210d ballistic nylon will be up for pre-order on 02/26. Details here.
